The resonating equilibrium wheels are part of Armin Strom’s new ARF15 motion, which is developed and fabricated in-house. Research and development took more than two and a half years and also a large portion of it went towards finding the best shape for the resonance clutch. It is a hand-wound movement comprising 226 parts and has a power reserve of 48 hours delivered by two mainspring barrels, which are clearly visible via the sapphire display case back. The motion is neatly decorated with finishes such as perlage, circular graining, Côtes de Genève, mirror polishing, and cleanup to create a contemporary and technical look. There’s quite a lot to like about the new Mirrored Force Resonance watch from Armin Strom. The most crucial of all is that it’s one of the few watches accessible that uses the principle of resonance in its own timekeeping, making it quite unique. This brings us to our second stage, and that is despite the technical movement of the watch, it remains highly legible and functional, which to me is a sign of good layout and also a testament to the amount of work and thought that the team at Armin Strom have placed to the watch.
Armin Strom’s Edge Double Barrel, the first model in the brand’s new Edge collection, is now also available in 18k rose gold. First presented in March at Baselworld 2016, the Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel —full hands-on review here— is powered by an innovative new Armin Strom in-house movement housed in the 46.80 mm case. The ARM16 caliber is composed of unusual polygon and angular-shaped components. The large case size deepens the sense of dimensionality of the open-worked movement, which is visible from the front and back of the timepiece. The hand-beveled bridges contrast with a cross grinding surface decoration, adding to the watch’s industrial appearance. Altogether, the mechanical elements and design create a captivating aesthetic. A close look reveals that Mr. Edge, official ambassador of the collection, is composed of many of the same individual components as the ARM16 movement. He’s the creation of the brand and Biel artist Herbert Krake, aka Tarkin, to serve as a communications tool.
With his transformer-like, brawny physique, the futuristic Mr. Edge makes an intense impression, matching the bold statement and design language of the Edge collection. The robot’s likeness will appear on advertising and marketing support for the collection, which Armin Strom plans to extend with forthcoming new models. The new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel in 18K rose gold is available in a limited edition of 100 pieces. The watch is fitted with a brown hornback alligator strap with pin gold buckle and an additional brown rubber strap. A double folding deployant clasp is available as an option. The movement powering the Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel in 18K Rose Gold is the manual wound in-house calibre ARM16 movement composed of 194 parts and 34 jewels. This movement with a power reserve of 8 days beats at a frequency of 18,000 vph. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
