To the left are two subsidiary seconds dials with very cool-looking triple-spoke moments hands. What’s even more peculiar is that the second palms spin in opposite directions. The very best hand spins counter-clockwise, while the reduced hand goes in a clockwise direction. It creates a fairly nice looking effect. Based on Armin Strom, it takes less than 10 minutes for the effects of resonance to take hold of both running seconds hands, after which you will see them beating in unison. And further to the left of the two subsidiary seconds dials are the stars of this watch – both resonating balance wheels. The 2 wheels oscillate at a rather unusual rate of 25,200bph, but what’s really unique about it’s the patented resonance clutch that connects the two balance wheels through the balance spring studs (the ends of the balance spring). This clutch allows the transmission of vibrational forces between the two equilibrium wheels, allowing them to find a natural rhythm in order that they can beat in unison. The clutch, made from steel, can also be what sets the Mirrored Force Resonance watch apart from its contemporaries. Instead of a clutch or linking mechanism, both F.P. Journe’s Chronomètre à Résonance watch and Beat Haldimann’s H2 Flying Resonance are concerned with adjusting the distance of the two oscillators to create the effects of resonance.
With a very similar look to Armin Strom’s Skeleton Pure Water we reviewed here, but featuring the ‘Air’ titanium case, comes this Armin Strom One Week Configured Unique Piece thanks to the recently launched Armin Strom Watch Configurator. This watch configurating system is not only quite innovative but it also offers hundreds if not thousands of possible combinations. If you can dream it, they can make it.
A simple process that begins with the client choosing the desired movement —a tourbillon, a Gravity with 5-day power reserve, a One Week or a Manual—, type of case and material and then choosing from an array of colors, engravings, finishes and even level of skeletonization for the movement, the unique piece comes to life with your choice of strap and type of buckle. Using a mobile app that is very user friendly, one can virtually step into Armin Strom’s workshop and create a unique looking timepiece within minutes.
The Armin Strom One Week we have here, features the traditional One Week manual wound in-house calibre ARM09-S composed of 146 parts, 34 jewels and which provides a power reserve of 8 days while beating at a frequency of 18,000 vph. With a level of skeletonization just like that on the Skeleton Pure but with blue bridges and a case typically not available on the Skeleton Pure with this type of color combo, this Armin Strom One Week is as unique as it gets.
With maximum skeletonization and with both mainspring barrels fully visible, one can enjoy looking inside the barrels and admiring the mainspring tightening as one winds the watch and the power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock starts moving from red to white.
Rounded out by a dark blue hornback alligator strap with pin buckle, the design of this watch is unique and unlike any of the watches that Armin Strom sells as line items within their different collections.
On the wrist, the Armin Strom One Week Configured Unique Piece wears true to its size and with the most unique and special wrist presence. Wearing a one-off timepiece sure beats anything that is available out there for everyone to have. All it takes is a visit to the Armin Strom Configurator and ‘voila’.
